EBC Reader: A Source for Researching the Laws of India

EBC Reader, by Eastern Book Company in India, is a subscription database that provides access to approximately 1,100 legal titles: including e-books, statutes, commentaries, law journals, law reports, and dictionaries. Based in Lucknow, India, Eastern Book Company was formed in the 1940s. The EBC Reader Campus Edition has the following features, as outlined on EBC Reader’s website at the date of this post.

  • Text to speech ad guided reading
  • e-Library with access to past editions
  • Ability to create shareable links and annotations

EBC Reader also provides cross-linking to Supreme Court Cases, SCC Online, which contains commentaries, statutes, and law reports. This cross-linking allows users to navigate between academic texts and caselaw[RS1]. The company states on its website that it provided access to previous editions. Free trials are available.

There is also the EBC Reader Platinum Edition, which is available across iOS, Android, and the Web. Included in this package are practice manuals, the Supreme Court Yearly Digest, and multi-volume commentaries and digests.
