Request for Assistance: Thomson Reuters CoCounsel AI Assistant

Author: Rebecca Mattson, Director of Operations & Scholarship, Montague Law Library, Penn State Dickinson Law

CRIV received a request for assistance asking for more information on the Westlaw user experience now that CoCounsel AI Assistant has been removed. We received the following response.

We’re always looking for ways to make your experience in Westlaw simpler and more intuitive, and that’s why we’re sunsetting the CoCounsel AI Assistant within Westlaw on September 30.

CoCounsel is not affected. If you subscribe to CoCounsel Legal or CoCounsel Essentials, you can continue to get full CoCounsel access by selecting the CoCounsel icon in the Westlaw header. All other AI functions in Westlaw remain available.

We know how valuable it is to ask questions directly within a case, so we’re carrying that capability forward into our new document insights feature, launching the same day. To ask a question when viewing a case, select Document Insights from the panel on the right side, then enter and submit your question.

If you subscribe to CoCounsel Legal or CoCounsel Essentials, you can continue to get full CoCounsel access by selecting the CoCounsel icon in the Practical Law header. All other AI functions in Practical Law remain available.

We know how valuable it is to ask questions directly within a Practice Note, so we’re carrying that capability forward into our new document insights feature, arriving in mid-October. Between September 30 and that date, the ask a question capability will not be available in Practical Law, though full-text search and browse remain available throughout. To ask a question when viewing a Practice Note, select Document Insights from the panel on the right side, then enter and submit your question.

Hope you and other librarians find this information helpful.
