CRIV/LexisNexis® Semiannual Update

The CRIV Semiannual Call with LexisNexis® took place Tuesday, December 12, 2023.

This update includes news and product enhancements released between June 2023 and December 2023.

COMPANY UPDATES

LexisNexis® Legal & Professional:

  • LexisNexis® Legal & Professional released the results of its International Legal Generative AI Survey, which found that nearly half of the legal profession believe GenAI will transform the practice of law. The survey asked 7,950 lawyers, law students, and consumers across the U.S., UK, Canada, and France about their general awareness, impact on the practice of law, and use and adoption of generative AI.
  • Recognized as a Best Place to Work for Disability Inclusion by the Disability Equality Index® (DEI), the world’s most comprehensive benchmarking tool for Fortune 1000 and Am Law 200 organizations to measure disability workplace inclusion efforts, identify areas of improvement, and benchmark progress against industry peers.
  • Published the LexisNexis® Product Performance and Customer Satisfaction Rates Study by PwC, a leading international professional services firm. LexisNexis commissioned PwC to focus on a Metric Assessment as an independent third party. The study highlights the process for reviewing and validating methodologies used as metrics to compare performance in legal technology.

Lexis® Snapshot

  • LexisNexis introduced a new generative AI service called Lexis® Snapshot that alerts users to summaries of legal documents across the LexisNexis portfolio. The new Lexis Snapshot service utilizes the power of generative AI to deliver summarized complaint filings for civil cases across the U.S. Federal District Courts.
    • Snapshot delivers key insights including the nature of the case, plaintiff and defendant information, alleged harm, and requested remedies, which saves hours of research time and accelerates both business development opportunities and response time.At launch, the Lexis Snapshot service can be added to the CourtLink® service, with a view to expand the service to additional products and document types within the LexisNexis generative AI-enabled legal product ecosystem in future releases.
    • The Lexis Snapshot service is currently available to preview for CourtLink customers through the end of 2023.

Lexis® Create

  • Lexis® Create launched in support of drafting for both transactional and litigation workflows, enabling drafting capabilities and bringing insights from LexisNexis directly where legal professionals work and extending its long-standing relationship with Microsoft®. Lexis Create is available as an add-on for Microsoft Word that puts Practical Guidance and Market Standards content, Shepard’s Citations, AI-powered Clause Intelligence, and other powerful recommendation and collaboration tools directly into the legal drafting workflow.
    • Additional improvements were released to Lexis Create to improve the quality and efficiency of proofreading and redaction capabilities.

UPDATED PRODUCTS & SERVICES

Lexis+®

  • Lexis+® (US) was recognized by the annual SIIA CODiE™ Awards, as the winner of Best Legal Solution.
  • Additional content resources were added to Lexis+ (and Lexis®) to expand the scope of coverage across the leading global and authoritative legal content collection:
    • Added Connecticut, New Jersey, and Louisiana state statute indices for a total of 42 topical indices available on Lexis+.Added 64 new Native American Case Law collections in 2023, of which 57 are exclusive to LexisNexis.Released 93 additions to the Native American Statutes and Codes collection, of which 72 are exclusive on Lexis.Added more than two million briefs, pleadings, and motions (BPM) citing references to Shepard’s reports. Five new Federal Court Motion and Brief sources were added to Shepard’s.Added nearly 50,000 WL parallel citations to the LexisNexis caselaw collection, enabling users to leverage Westlaw, LexisNexis, or other citation formats to find cases on Lexis+ or utilize for citing a case in court.
    • Rolled out 1,800+ new individual source publications within 2023 (YTD). View the list.
  • Released multiple improvements to product features across Lexis+:
    • The LexisNexis SmartLinx® Comprehensive Person Report was enhanced with new feature functionality and a modernized user interface to offer new content, expanded alert capabilities, and added functionality for users to control the display of data. Brief Analysis:
      • Now includes Recommended Arguments, an exclusive feature that surfaces highly relevant argument text, pulled from millions of filed motions in the Lexis+ database.Added further citation verification capabilities to clearly identify case citations that don’t match any citation in our database, aiding in the discovery of possible AI-hallucinated citations generated by use of public generative AI models.Updated Quote Check feature to provide more clear and accurate information regarding the source of the quote (i.e., the name and location of the case as it appears in Lexis).Improved Brief Analysis motion recommendations by including party role as an actionable procedural data point. This provides better clarity with matching motions (e.g., when multiple motions with the same name were decided in an opinion, the motion by the party of interest is noted as the matching motion). Depth of Discussion indicators to the Brief Analysis “Cited in Your Document” tab, guiding users to cases that have been heavily discussed in an uploaded document.
      Legal News Hub released a new article view for Law360® articles that brings the majority of Law360.com features into Lexis+.Released an optional ability to set a Default Jurisdiction for every Search by user.Released the Parallel Citation feature, which provides parallel citations for any input citation.Added the capability to quickly filter and view all citing agency decisions in Shepard’s reports. As Shepard’s agency coverage continues to expand, this feature displays the agencies more prominently and in a more useful, intuitive way.
    • Lexis+® Pinpoint
      • Extended the coverage and improved the performance of Pinpoint for litigation focused research.
      • Added two new practice areas: Civil Procedure and Bankruptcy.
      • Lexis+ Pinpoint has been named as a finalist in the category of Litigation Technology in the 2024 LegalWeek® Leaders in Tech Law Awards (announcing January 29).
  • Added Agreement Analysis to the Lexis+ ecosystem to aid transactional attorneys with a new tool that harnesses the power of extractive AI, leveraging expert legal content and seven million clauses to help quickly analyze, negotiate, and finalize transactional agreements. Agreement Analysis draws from Practical Guidance and SEC Content to analyze and make recommendations to improve agreement language associated with mergers, stock purchase, and asset purchase agreements.

CourtLink®

  • Added the District of Columbia Court of Appeals, expanding U.S. coverage.
  • Made available the UK High Court of Justice and Supreme Court of the United Kingdom, the first international courts available within the CourtLink service for U.S. clients.
  • Launched improvements for easier updating of Claims and Creditors data when working with U.S. Bankruptcy dockets.

CaseMap® Cloud

  • Recognized by the annual SIIA CODiE™ Awards, winning Best Business Intelligence Solution. CaseMap® Cloud is a cloud-based fact management and case analysis solution that helps attorneys manage case documents, data, media, and craft case strategy for presenting a compelling case story.
